Hanson Hu

This project explores the fusion of traditional samurai armor with a futuristic, post-apocalyptic aesthetic. Centered on themes of resilience, survival, and decay, the collection draws inspiration from video games I was playing at the time—particularly the intricate armor designs that resonated with me. This led to a connection with the form and spirit of Japanese samurai. Set in a dystopian future where technology has advanced but the world remains bleak and decaying, the collection reflects a tension between strength and ruin.

The title Umbra—meaning shadow—captures this mood: a world shrouded in darkness, where warriors move through ruin with quiet strength, carrying echoes of a noble past into an uncertain future.
