Mary Lou

This collection’s origin lies in the photo collages my grandmother, Mary Lou, created of herself, showcasing her maximalist, carefree lifestyle. It is an assemblage of my American and Peruvian family, brought together through the amalgamation of crafts from my heritage. From my mom’s side, I explored my grandmother’s iconic American fashion sense— vibrant vintage clothing, layered statement necklaces, countless rings paired with her sparkly purple nails, and knitwear, inspired by the hats she crocheted.
From my dad’s side, I incorporate motifs from my uncle’s surrealist artwork, the intricate Peruvian wood-carved furniture in my dad’s childhood home, and silver, reflecting my family’s history in the silver business in Peru. I empower my upbringing by collaging my roots eclectically.
