Body of Belongings

Body of Belongings is an exploration and celebration of my Syrian Sephardic Jewish heritage, honoring the brave women in my life who left everything behind in search of freedom for their families.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, I was brought up surrounded by Syrian Jewish rituals, from the smell of freshly baked challah to the rattle of backgammon pieces on Sabbath afternoons. Though I've never stepped on Syrian soil, it feels as though parts of us never left. This collection reflects that inheritance, blending classic silhouettes with deeply personal motifs to tell a story of identity, memory, and the beauty of what we carry forward. Symbolizing my American identity, I used denim as a canvas to tell the story of my grandmother’s courageous escape, layering and weaving my Syrian heritage into the fabric of the country where my family rebuilt their lives. Inspired by the act of layering one’s most valuable possessions, each piece reimagines tradition through a modern diasporic lens.
