Tracy Lin

Collection
Image: This thesis collection explores the relationship between conformity and rebellion through personal experiences and insights. It draws inspiration from Park Sung Jin’s photographic work, Kid Nostalgia: Portraitsof South Korean Youth, which captures subtle acts of defiance within astrict educational system.
Image: In Park's images, students challenge norms with modified school uniforms and carefully styled hair, reflecting a struggle between societal expectations and personal expression that resonates deeply with my own experiences. I aim to use this collection to reinterpret those moments of suppressed self-expression, transforming elements once seen as "wrong" into meaningful design statements.

Bio

Tracy Lin (Yuhe Lin) is a fashion designer from China, currently studying and working in New York. Growing up in diverse environments due to her family’s frequent relocations, Tracy developed a habit of observing her surroundings—people, objects, and cultures—and finding ways to adapt to new contexts. This unique upbringing laid the foundation for her design philosophy: she draws inspiration from everyday phenomena, reflecting on and reinterpreting them through her work.

Tracy’s design language often carries a subtle tension, a “twist” that reflects her experiences. Her pieces, while not overtly extreme, are imbued with thoughtful details and unexpected touches, blending a playful, humorous approach with vibrant creativity. She enjoys experimenting with unconventional materials, believing that anything in life can become part of how we adorn our bodies. Rejecting rigid norms, her designs embrace the potential for self-expression and discovery.
